Social Ministry

Social ministry is a service oriented organ setup to respond to social, economic, political and cultural issues both inter- and extra- the Parish. Its core function is to promote the prophetic role of the church by announcing and denouncing issues through the Catholic Social teachings and building Christ’s family that uphold the principle of common good and respect of human dignity.

The main programmes and activities focus on the need and services expressed during the evaluation period conducted in the year 2009. These activities are grouped under departments as follows:

a. Justice and Peace that includes Conflict Resolution, Governance, Peace building, Advocacy, Inter-religious dialogue and Networking

b. Social Services that includes the needy (old age, Single mothers, widow/widower, OVC), school support, emergency and medical assistance (as per our capacity).

c. Communication: Media as a tool of evangelization (Bulletin, Website and data collection)

d. Networking and collaboration with other Parishes, churches and government administration

e. Inter religious dialogue

To fulfill this, the ministry has designed a pastoral education programme for members of the Small Christian Communities and Parish groups in order to build a community where life and faith are the core value.

This pastoral education programme has a long-term approach because the Church beliefs evangelization and human formation is an on-going process. As a ministry, it’s going to work with a society characterized by extreme inequality that creates social economic and political gap.
